In this project in Overijse, Belgium, we're planting 800 new trees on the northern edge of the plot. Additionally, there is a possibility to plant a few islands in the adjacent meadow. We're starting with 50 extra trees in an island. The 800 new trees will be planted in three rows along 240 meters of forest edge (0,70m in between). The species planted are Hawthorn, hornbeam, European spindle, field maple, cherry, viburnum, etc. It is important to execute this project to create habitats for wildlife and diversify the forest to ensure resilience in the face of climate change. Other details Altitude - 67m Nursery - Pirothon We are still looking for support: Inside the Marnix forest, we want to execute a selected clearing and enrichment project in the context of Assisted Natural Regeneration. We will valorize the natural seedlings in place and plant enrichment islands. The regeneration in this forest is already very present and will flourish when we give it the needed space. Plantation updates: - Planting date: The plantation was completed in April 2025. - 850 trees planted: hawthorn, viburnum, dogwood, spindle, wild rose, elder, maple, hornbeam, hazel and cherry. - Monitoring summary: The planting took place on 2.3 hectares. Trees were planted in a tiered edge layout, organized in three bands. Weather conditions were normal, and no difficulties were reported. - Maintenance: Future work will focus on clearing.

Ohey is a French-speaking municipality of Belgium located in the Walloon Region in the province of Namur. This region is known for its hiking activities and its pond. The project in Évelette is a project focused on the plantation of trees and the process of natural regeneration. A total number of 1500 trees (hardwood species) will be planted on a 2.94-ha plot. With these 1500 trees, approximately 1.5 ha will be replanted. The plantation will take place between December 2022 and March 2023. With this plantation, we want to optimize the natural regeneration of maple trees by bringing diversity. We, therefore, keep strips of natural regeneration of maple trees, and between them, we introduce strips of other species. In total, there will be four species of 100% hardwood on the site: maple trees + the three new species. The three new tree species are chestnut trees, sessile oaks and red oaks. The trees are protected by 1m20 sheaths and will be organized in a pure 2m/2m plantation with alternating species (by shredded band). The diversity that we bring to this forest brings about ecosystem benefits and sustainability of the forest. Plantation updates: - Planting date: The trees were planted on December 22, 2022. - 1500 trees planted: The plantation included 500 chestnut trees, 500 sessile oaks and 500 red oaks. - Monitoring summary: Monitoring conducted in April 2024 indicated a robust survival rate of 90%. The trees are in good health, with no evidence of damage from pests, disease or adverse weather conditions. Natural regeneration is occurring successfully between the planting rows, predominantly featuring maples and birches. The landowner views the project as a clear success and is particularly satisfied with the planting strategy used. During a field visit in June 2026, we confirmed the continued healthy growth of the trees. - Maintenance: Manual clearing is being carried out regularly to promote healthy growth and ensure the long-term vitality of the trees.
