Coral reef restoration in Madagascar

In Madagascar, 1.5 million people depend on coral reefs for food, and the reefs form the basis of their livelihood. Direct ecosystem services include food supply, cultural value, material resources, climate regulation, and hope for scientific research.
The first pilot restoration site, run by local partner Koraï, was Nosy Antsoha. Corals transplanted in August 2023 were growing and healthy by November 2023, confirming the transplantation technique's viability.
