This project is located near the village of Maromiandra in the Boanamary municipality (Majunga II district), at the mouth of the Betsiboka River.
Betsiboka River is a 525-km-long river in central-north Madagascar. It flows northwestward and empties to Bombetoka Bay, forming a large delta. Mangroves surround the river.
The river is distinctive for its red-colored water, caused by river sediments. The river carries an enormous amount of reddish-orange silt to the sea. Much of this silt is deposited at the mouth of the river or in the bay. It is dramatic evidence of the catastrophic erosion of northwestern Madagascar.
The Majunga project was born out of Bondy's desire to expand to Western Madagascar, its ambition to be an actor in the restoration of mangroves in Madagascar, and its willingness to be involved in projects that have high carbon sequestration potential.
The global objective is to contribute to the mangrove restoration in Maromiandra by involving local populations and improving their living conditions in a sustainable way.
