From next week, our local partner Koraï will have installed 109 new coral frames at Nosy Tanga. Every new frame is a step closer to the goal of restoring 50% of the Tanga reef zone.

The corals going onto these frames come entirely from in-situ methods: rescued "opportunity fragments" from already-damaged coral, and small, carefully-limited cuttings (max 10%) from healthy colonies, planted straight back on-site to keep stress to a minimum. No land nursery needed — just the reef, restoring itself with a helping hand.

The yearly monitoring cycle is also kicking off its early-August round — now in its second year at Tanga — comparing restored zones, untouched zones, and healthy reef to track real progress over time. Stay tuned for the results!

Alongside the reef work, local fishers are being trained to protect the frames and spot anomalies on-site, and awareness sessions with coastal communities continue in parallel 🌊
