Together with our field partner Faja Lobi, Go Forest works hand in hand with local communities through a bottom-up approach to realise large-scale reforestation projects. By planting native species on degraded soils, we actively restore biodiversity while creating meaningful employment for local people through manual planting work.
Our approach goes beyond simply planting trees. By combining reforestation with social projects and agroforestry, we build strong and lasting relationships with local communities. Their long-term stewardship is what will ultimately secure the future of these new forests.
Our reforestation program focuses on restoring the natural environment in the rural areas near the savannah highlands of Idiofa. Replanting these degraded lands helps prevent further desertification of the region. Looking ahead, our long-term vision includes well-considered forest management, designed to relieve pressure on DR Congo's precious old-growth jungle.
We primarily plant native forest tree species, carefully selected for their ecological and economic value. Our species mix includes, among many others, Millettia laurentii (Wenge), Cassia siamea and Cassia floribunda, Pentaclethra macrophylla (Owes), Piptodeniastrum africanum (Osing), Hevea brasiliensis, Uapaca mole (Ontang), Canarium schweinfurtii (Mbidi), Prioria balsamifera (Mwana Mpembe), Milicia excelsa (Mulundu), Pterocarpus soyauxii (Padouk), Ceiba pentandra (Obel), Pericopsis elata (Afromosia), Khaya grandifoliolia, Nauclea diderrichii, Autranella congolensis and Gilbertiodendron dewevrei (Labong), alongside many further local species that together restore the rich layered structure of the Congolese forest.
