After a fruitful meeting with our Scottish field partner Seawilding, we have some amazing restoration results to share: last year's planted seagrass has survived the winter storms, is growing beautifully, and is now expanding into a healthy seagrass meadow!
Therefore, the project already positively impacts the local biodiversity, fish stocks, carbon sequestration, coastal economies, other restoration efforts, and governmental decisions on fisheries and seabed management.
This year’s planting season is also completed, potentially creating 2600 square meters of new meadow. The team experimented with timings, densities, harvesting intensities, direct seeding, and “sand capping”, so that next year’s results will tell even more about effectiveness and efficiency.
If these patches take, we’re looking at a whole new world of restoration potential — right here on our doorstep. Time - and monitoring results - will tell ⏳
