Mid-planting update from the Gironde region 🇫🇷

We’re pleased to share a mid-season update on our reforestation efforts in the Gironde region, covering two sites: Vertheuil and Saint Germain d’Estheuil. A total of 1,790 trees have been planted so far, out of the 2,490 originally planned for the season. Despite some challenges with soil moisture, the planting team made strong progress, particularly in Vertheuil.

At Parcelle 1 in Vertheuil, 1,690 trees were all successfully planted on 0.7 hectares. The species mix includes a dominant share of pin maritime, making up 58% of the total, followed by chênes pubescents, chênes verts, bouleaux, châtaigniers, chênes lièges, and some poplars planted along the borders. Notably, a greater number of chênes verts were planted than initially planned.

Parcelle 2 in Saint Germain d’Estheuil saw the planting of 100 chênes verts on 0.1 hectares. The full scope of planting on this parcel could not be completed due to high soil moisture levels, which made the terrain difficult to access and work on. The remaining 700 trees — mostly composed of a diverse mix of shrubby species — are scheduled for planting in autumn 2025, once optimal conditions return.

Maintenance work, including clearing and application of trico for protection, is planned for the coming months to support the health and resilience of the young forest. Although the final planting results don’t yet fully match the original plan, the project remains on track. Completion is expected during the next planting window in autumn 2025!
