Cabragh House reforestation in England exceeds expectations

United Kingdom
10/6/2026

This year's monitoring at Cabragh House in the South Downs National Park confirms that the site is doing very well. In 2022-2023, 1,660 native trees were planted here to replace ash trees lost to ash dieback, 1,000 of them sponsored by Go Forest clients. Today 95% of the trees are healthy and the plantation has exceeded expectations.

English oak, hornbeam, wild cherry, wild service tree, small-leaved lime and sycamore are growing well. Deer have browsed some young trees, but this has not affected their survival. Sycamore, wild cherry and beech are also regenerating naturally, adding more variety to the site. Large old trees, dead wood and a wide range of flowering plants make the site a rich habitat for wildlife.
