Together with Van Oord and Wageningen University, we’re gearing up for the next monitoring campaign of the oyster structures. Originally, we had planned to carry out the ROV survey in the fall, exactly one year after the placement of the oysters.
However, after consultation with our oyster expert, we’ve decided to combine the ROV survey with a larval density assessment. This larval survey needs to be conducted in the summer, during the spawning season when mature oysters release larvae.
The ROV footage will help us assess the survival of the adult oysters and check where the structures have settled. But with the larval density measurements, we also hope to confirm that the introduced oysters are functioning as a “larval pump,” contributing actively to the local population.
Stay tuned!
P.S. We're still waiting for the first ROV monitoring report to arrive - keeping you updated!
