In the Spring of 2025, the majority of a new 4-hectare forest was successfully planted in Tórtoles de Esgueva, Spain. A total of 1,600 holm oaks (Quercus ilex) — a key truffle-producing species — are planted using sustainable forestry techniques. This reforestation project not only restores unused farmland but also creates new opportunities for local economic development through truffle cultivation.

The planting was carried out by a dedicated team of local workers and specialists, using high-quality, mycorrhized seedlings to promote healthy growth. The plantation faced no major difficulties.

Looking ahead, the team plans to finish the plantation, replace any trees that don’t survive, and develop educational tours and a truffle-growing school to support future farmers and raise awareness about sustainable land use.

This initiative is already bringing renewed vitality to the village, turning abandoned land into a thriving, nature-based economy!
